With Women’s Day around, we feel like doing a list of awesome video games with female heroines. So, that’s what we’re gonna do today. Let’s face it: there’s nothing quite as compelling as a badass lady who’s got beauty, grace, smarts and isn’t a damsel in distress.
The games we’re gonna talk about today aren’t a means to demean anyone but rather to celebrate why we adore gaming heroines. After the disastrous news of WB insanely all in for embracing live service, we need something to keep our spirits up. So, step off the bias and rage pedal, take a chill pill, and let’s go on this beautiful journey together!
Which Games With The Hottest And Coolest Female Heroines Are Worth Playing In 2024?
With so many bangers already in 2024, such as games like Helldivers 2, there’s reasonable enough cause to be optimistic. Then again, we had the baffling revelation that Assassin’s Creed IV Blackflag is better than Skull & Bones. So, to find some semblance of balance, we’re gonna look at games with female heroines who everyone can agree are awesome.
In that regard, we’re gonna touch on a mix of relatively older and some newer gems. Balance, remember? Anyway, even we were surprised when making this list, here’s a mini-spoiler: every single one of our games is by a Japanese developer. Go figure! Now, let’s see how many y’all can guess.

Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy – (XIII, XIII-2, Lighting Returns)
Oh boy, talk about divisive as heck choice for an ice-breaker, huh? But you know what? We dig it, so we don’t mind the outrage for this choice. Lightning from the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy of video games is a badass and one of the most beautiful female heroines. She’s in the starring role and rightfully deserves the spotlight for shouldering the burden of the world.
Her personality is both stoic and empathic, slowly maturing throughout the course of her journey. It’s not just her power that increases but also her emotional growth, which is fascinating to watch. Make no mistake, Lightning is the star of the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy, and rightfully so, too.
The Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy gameplay might not be the best, but it ain’t the worst, either. It’s in such a unique position in the entire franchise. Oh, and the Director wanted Lightning to be a more flirtatious female, his words, not ours, though we definitely wouldn’t have minded those kind of heroines in the Final Fantasy 13 games trilogy. Oh, well, guess we’ll just have to settle for the extra picturesque and risque outfits for that.

Tomb Raider: Underworld – Classic Lara Is The Best Template For Female Heroines In Games
One of gaming’s most iconic female heroines, players couldn’t get enough of in her games, is Lara Croft. Her popularity still holds true in the player base. But, wait, we’ll not cite the most recent trilogy of Tomb Raider from Square Enix as the peak of the series, no. There’s another one that deserves that acclaim, and it’s Tomb Raider Underworld.
Lara Croft was designed to be the ultimate gamer fantasy girl. Her panache, stylish outfits, graceful agility, and traversal made everything look easy; it was just perfection. The game that best showcases these aspects of her personality and skills is Tomb Raider Underworld.
Sure, the recent remaster of the original Tomb Raider Trilogy is good for nostalgia, but its age certainly shows. That’s not the case with Tomb Raider Underworld. If anything, it is the foundation for the modern trilogy, but it’s sad that Square Enix couldn’t follow their own template. It would have been epic to see games that take cues to portray one of gaming’s finest female heroines.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake + Rebirth – A Tie Between Best Female Video Game Heroines
Talk about video games with female heroines that have all the buzz, right? Whether it’s the rough visuals of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which Square Enix will address in the immediate future, or the Remake’s surprising changes, one thing’s for darn sure. The ladies are the true show-stealers in both games. We wish for more classic games that deserve remakes, like Final Fantasy VII, to become a reality down the road.
The fandom war rages on between Cloud’s shippers with either Aerith or Tifa. Personally, we believe Jesse should have been the one for him, but hey, that’s just us. Anyway, the utterly gorgeous Aerith and Tifa aren’t defined by Cloud. They’re also more expressive, combat-savvy, and not to mention well-rounded, too. The inclusion of their swimwear was a neat little touch that we appreciate as well.
The stakes are much higher in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth than ever before, and the character motivations make the female heroines such a delight to watch in both games. Taking in whatever little joyful distractions elevates their character development and their charm. Oh, and if you’re planning to jump into this series, we do have a few primer games to play before Final Fantasy VII Rebirth you can check out.

Nier Automata
Well, big surprise, eh? Not, really, though, cause let’s face it: 2B was always gonna be on our list of top-tier games with female heroines. Can you blame us?! She’s not only smoking hot but super strong and deadly, too. The game, Nier Automata, will then hit you with the trainwreck of a story that’ll leave you speechless.
In a way, that is such a Yoko Taro thing to do that we’re not surprised by it. Cause the man’s a freaking genius at toying with the players’ sanity and emotions. In Nier Automata, things are never what they seem, and what you think as a simple journey becomes complex and gives you an unforgettable experience. Platinum Game’s signature style of hack-and-slash gameplay shines here, too.
The real star of the story is 2B, the sentient android. She’s one of those female heroines in games you just can’t look away from, for both obvious reasons and narratively compelling ones. She’s voiced brilliantly in both Japanese and English, and her cold exterior is shown to be a defensive coping trait when, in reality, she does care. A killer with a heart? Yes, please! The musical score and vocals of Nier Automata are next-level epic, too.

Metroid Dread
Okay, we’re getting into the upper echelon territory of female heroines in video games, and it’s fitting that we talk about one that needs little introduction. The silent blonde beauty and intergalactic bounty hunter extraordinaire Samus Aran from the Metroid franchise. It’s amazing how her longevity and popularity have still carried over to the Nintendo fanbase.
Let’s face it: Metroid is a pioneering series in the platforming Metroid-Vania sub-genre. People are hungry for more of these kinds of titles, and Nintendo delivered one of the finest entries in the series, Metroid Dread. Aptly named Metroid Dread puts the fear front and center as Samus has to be the hunted rather than the hunter. It’s mindboggling how much emotions you feel despite her face concealed behind a helmet.
The dangers she faces are beyond imagination. The sci-fi elements play into the horror side in Metroid Dread. Samus must be on her toes, as you never know when enemies will appear. She’s gotta upgrade her power armor to traverse the environment. Samus Aran braves these dangers in a nail-biting way, and our admiration for her only rises for her. She’s well-deserving of her fame for trailblazing female heroines in video games.

Bayonetta Trilogy
Another Nintendo exclusive, would you look at that? For all the flak it might receive for Nintendo’s lawsuit clamping down on Switch Simulator Yuzu, the company’s pretty great at winning people over, too. Just look at the fantastic Bayonetta Trilogy of games. Every entry is a breath of fresh air and gives us the peak of over-the-top stylish combat action gameplay.
What’s more, the Bayonetta trilogy features perhaps the most charismatic, head-turning, daringly bold female heroines in all of video games. Sure, others might be out there, but none are as mainstream as the Umbra Witch herself, Bayonetta. Her poses and flexibility alone will have your jaw on the floor, and her flirty persona? Woof~ we get chills every time we hear her voice.
The powers and skills that Bayonetta has, complement her personality so well. She’s like the perfect and ideal lady. In fact, none can match the strut and finesse with which she can deliver a beatdown, all the while looking breathtakingly stunning, too. It goes without saying Bayonetta is right up there with the best female heroine in video games. We’d go so far as to say she’d be a perfect fit in the steamiest dating simulator games ever.
[Honorable Mention]
Street Fighter 6
Where do we even begin with this one? Street Fighter 6 is not one of those video games that features exclusively all female heroines. But! Here’s the kicker: the ladies this time around are far more hardcore without sacrificing any of their visual flare or appeal. Capcom just knows how to get things right, and honestly? That’s ’all ya need in your gaming: good-looking visuals and exciting gameplay; Street Fighter 6 in spades.
Every female fighter in Street Fighter 6 has a different vibe, and all of them hold a certain level of allure. Whether it’s the OG favorites like the ever-swanlike Chun Li, who’ll demolish her opponents with kicks, or newcomers like the sadistic A.K.I, who is gonna go dark and eviscerate her enemies with her unorthodox methods, you’ll have a blast with the game. The roster’s diversity is another reason why we love it so much.
So, technically, since Street Fighter 6 doesn’t have the same singular focus female heroines as the other games on our list, we had to include it as an honorable mention. Sure, it’s bending the rules a bit, but when has that ever stopped us? Anyway, Street Fighter 6 is dope as heck and changes up the gameplay significantly, so check it out. It’ll be well worth your time; learning its game mechanics has never been easier.

Stellar Blade – Uncrowned King Among Games With One Of The Hottest Female Heroines Ever
Alright, alright, so we know Stellar’s Blade is one month away, but from what we’ve seen of it, it’s gonna be a banger. Like, no joke, the level of visual detail and the glorious form of the protagonist, Eve, is gonna give other female heroines in video games some serious competition. But who doesn’t love good, healthy competition among game devs? We sure do!
Stellar Blade is not just all looks, though, because the gameplay reveals had us hooked from the get-go. From the game’s cinematic-like hack-and-slash combat to the cool and flashy traversal, Steller Blade feels magnificent. The emotions are gonna be high, too, it seems. We say that since the story feels more like Eve’s personal journey rather than a high-stakes mission,
Another thing of note is that Stellar Blade’s devs aren’t backing down from all the naysayer’s backlash. Good on them! Video games should never mix with politics; after all, we play them to escape our reality, not bring it there with us. The doubters and critics may shout and cry, but we’re proud and looking forward to playing one of the best video games having one of the hottest female heroines in recent memory.
Final Thoughts
Well, that’s gonna wrap up our list of dope-as-heck video games with the hottest and coolest female heroines. Yeah, definitely not what everyone was expecting, and to be honest, not what we were, either. No Western developers at all; maybe it’s time for them to step up their game and give the gamers what they want.
So, what’re your thoughts on this one, folks? How would you rate our selection today, and which games would you include, too? Tell us in the comments below. Oh, and if you’re looking for upcoming new releases, we’ve got a solid recommendation of 2024’s most anticipated Roblox games. Check it out if you’re into those. Anyway, we’ll see y’all in the next one. Happy gaming!
