Primal Raid Day

Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon are both coming back to Pokemon GO with their own separate Primal Raid Day dates coming later this month on March 17th for Kyogre and March 23rd for Groudon, giving players another chance to get both for their roster and take advantage of the Primal Reversion Mechanic in the game.

The Primal Forms of Groudon and Kyogre were first released in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire back in the Nintendo 3DS days, with their addition to Pokemon GO coming with unique benefits that act similar to small bonuses, allowing players to get a boost to their power in raids and battles on top of a big boost to Kyogre and Groudon themselves. Primal forms act similar to Mega Evolution, where their usage gives some unique benefits in the game.

Primal Reversion Mechanic In Pokemon GO

The biggest benefit of Primal Pokemon in the game is the bonuses they provide in raids. When a Primal Pokemon is active, they give a big boost to the power of other Pokemon and even come with the Weather Change mechanic. For those that aren’t aware of the Weather Effect in the game, the weather has a big effect on the gameplay as the type of weather affects the kind of Pokemon spawns, the power or CP of Pokemon, the power of Pokemon moves in Raids and battles, and more. Allowing players to alter the weather gives them a way to make it to their advantage. Both Groudon and Kyogre get a big boost to their CP as well when they revert to their Primal forms and also provide many other bonuses such as an XP bonus and bonus Candy from catching Pokemon that are the same type as either of the Primal Pokemon and more.

There is much to be gained from having Primal Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

Kyogre Primal Raid Day

Primal Kyogre will return to the game on March 17th for three hours from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. During this duration, the Pokemon will spawn in an ample amount at Gyms which will make them proper Primal Raid Gyms for the duration. This is where players can get together to try to battle and defeat it. Note that Primal Raids are one of the most difficult raids to do in the game, so players would need to have some strong Pokemon and enough raid members to defeat Kyogre.

After defeating it, players will get Primal Energy, the item that allows them to change Kyogre from its normal form to Primal form. Players will also get an encounter with Kyogre, so they’ll want to battle and defeat multiple Primal Kyogre Raids to get enough Primal Energy to transform their Kyogre to get all the Primal Reversion bonuses.

Primal Kyogre

There will be 4 Event Bonuses active that will benefit players who opt to play and participate in Kyogre Primal Raid Day. They are the following:

  • Primal Kyogre will spawn frequently in Raids during the three hours of the event.
  • Players will get 5 additional Raid Passes on top of the regular 1 Raid Pass on that day from spinning Gym discs in the game. This will allow players to get 6 free passes and battle at least 6 Primal Kyogre for completely free. All they need to do is play the game and participate in the raids on March 17 for Primal Kyogre.
  • Shiny Kyogre will also have an increase in encounter chance, allowing players to get the shiny version of Kyogre. This is a great time to get a shiny legendary Pokemon in the game.
  • Remote Raid Passes will have an increase in the total limit, set to 20 during the Kyogre Primal Raid Day. The actual active period for this bonus will be from March 16th 5 PM to March 17 8 PM, so players can stack up remote raid passes if they plan on staying at home and participating remotely.

There will also be a purchasable Event Ticket for Kyogre Primal Raid Day in the game for $5 USD. This will give some additional bonuses that would stack with the ones already mentioned. They are the following:

  • Players will get 8 more Raid Passes from spinning Gym discs in Pokemon GO. This is on top of the 5 given for free and the regular 1 that players can get daily. This will allow players to get 14 free Raid Passes for the Kyogre Primal Raid Day.
  • Players will have a higher chance to get XL Rare Candy from Raid Battles.
  • Players will get 50% more XP from Raids as well.
  • Players will get 2x Stardust from Raids.

All of these bonuses are exclusive to the Event Ticket for Kyogre’s Primal Raid Day, with the bonuses active from the start of the event period at 2 PM till 10 PM. Note that both Kyogre and Groudon have separate Event Tickets to go with their separate Primal Raid Days, so players will need to buy both if they want the exclusive bonuses of both.

Players can also buy this ticket for friends if they are added ingame and are at least Great Friends. The ticket will be removed from the game and the shop after Kyogre’s Raid Day concludes.

Groudon Primal Raid Day

For Groudon, the date is March 23rd, from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. Similar to Kyogre’s Raid Day, it will be spawning in ample with active bonuses during the event duration, as well as a purchasable ticket.

Primal Groudon comes with its own set of Type and Weather Effect so it covers a different variety of Pokemon so players will still find it useful to add both to their collection instead of just one.

Primal Groudon

Bonuses Active for Groudon Primal Raid Day are the following:

  • Primal Groudon Primal Raids will appear very frequently for the three event hours.
  • Players will receive 5 free normal Raid Passes from spinning Pokemon GO Gym discs, allowing up to 6 free Raids for free.
  • Shiny Groudon will have its encounter chance increased after Primal Groudon is defeated in a Primal Raid.
  • The Remote Raid limit will be increased to a total of 20 during the event duration, with this actual bonus active period from March 22nd 5 PM till March 23rd 8 PM.

Similar to Kyogre’s Event Ticket, Groudon’s Ticket will come separately for the same $5 USD cost that will grant the same bonuses on Groudon’s Primal Raid Day:

  • 8 Free additional Raid passes on top of the 5 free ones and the 1 normal free one that players can get regularly from spinning Gym discs in the game.
  • Rare Candy XL drop increased chance.
  • 50% more XP gain from participating and defeating Raids.
  • 2x bonus to Stardust gained from Raids.

Players can gift this to friends as well if they are added ingame and are at least Great Friends.

Primal Energy and Explanation

Primal Energy is the basis of Primal Reversion and Primal Forms of both Kyogre and Groudon. Both Pokemon have separate Pirmal Energy that players can get by participating and defeating either Primal Pokemon in Primal Raids. This is how they can farm up the energy needed to transform either one into their Primal forms and get all the bonuses.

There are Primal Levels of both these Pokemon which increases every time players transform them. With each transformation, their Primal Level increases and so does their bonus. Players can check their current Primal Level of Groudon or Kyogre by simply checking the Pokemon in their Pokemon tab. It is very beneficial for players to get to the highest Primal Level for both of the Pokemon to get the maximum out of their bonuses, as well as stacking up enough Primal Energy to be able to transform them whenever needed.

Primal Raid Day

This is why the Primal Raid Day is a big event, and having two of them, one for each Pokemon, is something Pokemon GO players wouldn’t want to miss out on. If you’re one of them, keep the two dates, March 17th and March 23rd, in mind so you don’t miss out on this current season the World of Wonders.
