Three Classic Mario Titles Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online

It’s Mario Day today and there’s come a new announcement of another Super Mario Bros. Movie in the works by Illumination Studios and Nintendo collaborating once again as they did with the original film last year, with April 3rd 2026 the intended release date for the upcoming animated film. But that’s not all, as another announcement has just arrived, one about Nintendo Switch Online getting three classic Mario games from the Gameboy and Gameboy Color Era added for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo has released a small video showcasing the newest titles coming to Nintendo Switch Online on various social media platforms. Here’s the video via Nintendo of America’s YouTube Channel:

The Gameboy title, Dr. Mario, and two Gameboy Color titles, Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, will be added to the lineup of Gameboy and Gameboy Color games on Nintendo Switch Online on March 12th.

Dr. Mario was the first title of its kind that was highly successful and very popular among that time’s videogame customer base, going on to be remade and readded in many newer Nintendo console systems. The original game will now be playable on the Nintendo Switch via the company’s subscriber membership.

The two Mario titles for the Gameboy are one of the earliest Mario titles in the sports series so it’s reassuring that the Online membership enables users to give it a try so they can compare how far the franchise has come, with both Golf and Tennis being reimagined in many newer Mario Tennis and Golf titles since then.

Mario on Nintendo Switch Online

It’s a pleasant surprise to see new announcements coming through on Mario Day as there wasn’t any kind of news about these titles nor the Movie coming later, so for fans of the franchise and for Nintendo fans in general, it is truly a nice day.

So far this news and the next Super Mario Bros. Movie announcement are the new big news that have been shared. Maybe some more are coming later in the day? Regardless this is plenty enough to go with for now, and if any more news is shared we’ll be sure to cover it.
