Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Campaign was one of the lowest-rated games despite being the bestselling game of its launch month, per Circana.
According to Circana’s executive director, Mat Piscatella, Modern Warfare 3 has become the best-selling game of last month. It has beaten Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from its top spot. It also instantly became the second best-selling game of the year, behind Hogwarts Legacy.
Circana is a leading advisor on the complexity of consumer behavior. They tracked this information despite the negative reviews of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 got by game critics.
Modern Warfare 3: What Fell Short
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is one of the series’ lowest-rated games because its Campaign mode fell short. That was the major issue, it was just too small. Christopher Judge, the voice actor behind Kratos in the God of War series also took a dig at the game in his speech at the Game Awards punning “My speech was actually longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign.” Everyone is aware of this, it was short with fewer cinematic game sequences, dull open-combat missions, and a very abrupt cliffhanger ending. It takes just about 3 to 4 hours to finish, and players have had to pay $70 for it.
It has one of the shortest Call of Duty campaigns in the series. In the Studio’s defense, the developers only got 16 months to finish and is now the shortest dev cycle in Call of Duty History. There were reports that the developers were told to make a DLC instead of a complete game, hence the campaign was rushed to be released within the given timeline. What the Campaign lacked was made up in their multiplayer mode.
Online is where it Thrives
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 online play is where it shines bright. There is a huge set of weapons to choose from, all Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 weapons are included. New gear, killstreaks, and attachments to choose from. Online play is smooth, addictive, and more intuitive than ever before. Zombies in Warzone add to the fun and fan-favorite maps like Rust, Terminal, and Scrapyard are also back. The new weekly challenges are interesting as you can unlock gun mods that change everything about those guns. There are numerous loadout options, and a massive selection of game modes, maps, and season 1 has just started. Players can be expecting much more in future seasons.
Despite the hate Campaign, Multiplayer is breaking records as the game just launched in November. This proves that Game Critics’ ratings don’t define the game’s outcome. IGN gave Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 a 4/10, one of their lowest-scoring games of 2023, but still one of the best-selling games of 2023.
