The Las-16 Sickle can be unlocked by spending real-life money or tons of Super Credits to unlock the Cutting Edge War Bond and, in turn, spend 20 medals to get your hands on it. If you’re not willing to spend real-life money, it’s going to be one hell of a grind. But how does it compare to the rest of the energy-based weapons in Helldivers 2?
Well, the Las-16 Scythe operates much more like an energy-based Assault Rifle that acts like a cousin to the base Liberator that we all know and love. With a higher fire rate than the Liberator, it feels like an energy-based machine gun, to say the least.
The cherry on top is that you get accessibility to 3 different zoom modes ranging from 25m, 50m, and 100m. While the 3 added zoom modes are a nice touch, you’ll mostly be using the Las-16 Sickle in the medium to long-range sight lines.
The damage output is about the same as the Liberator but due to the higher rate of fire, it sure does more damage than the Liberator Assault Rifle. But it does fall a bit flat when compared to the OP SMG-37 Defender, which is in a league of its own.
Being an energy-based weapon, you have to swap out heat sinks if it ever overheats. There’s no reloading involved. Not unless you burn out a heat sink. But with 6 heat sinks in your reserve, there’s no worrying about running out of energy-based ammo.
While it does excel in the damage-per-second department in Helldivers 2, the Las-16 Sickle has a longer cool-down time when it overheats, allowing enemy hordes to push in faster. Therefore, you’d either have to use the new energy-based weapon from a distance or switch to your secondary in times of need. This is one of the few downsides of the new energy-based weapon.
Unfortunately, the Las-16 Sickle, while great at wiping out weaker enemies and enemies with Light to Medium Armor, it’s pretty ineffective against Bile Titans, Chargers, and Hulks. So, use it to clear out bug breached and small fry, and keep the big guns and Stratagems under your sleeves for the heavies.

Summary: The New Energy-Based Gun Is A Solid B-Tier Weapon
All-in-all, the Las-16 Sickle is pretty much worth it in Helldivers 2. It’s a better iteration of the Liberator Assault Rifle without the need to reload on the go. With a higher fire rate and minimal recoil added into the mix, it’s definitely worth the salt.
The only caveat is that you need to spend your hard-earned Super Credits along with a few medals to access the new gun. The spinning reticle is also a bit annoying and gets in your way, but hey, it’s a shiny new energy-based weapon that does a decent job at what it’s built for. And for that reason, it’s a solid B-Tier Weapon in our book.
