If you are an avid follower of Dota2 tournaments then you must have come across Boom Esports. Established in November 2016, Boom Esports has entered not just the Dota2 scene but also the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene. The current roster consists of 5 players, all originating from Peru, and joined the organization in early November 2023. It is safe to say that the current roster is a relatively new one. The roster consists of Christian “Pakasz” Savina, Jordan “Slatem$” Vega, Rafael “Sacred” Yonatan, Farith “Matthew” Puente, and Romel “Mjz” Rojas. The head coach is Igor “kaffs” Furtado Guimaraes from Brazil.
With the new roster in place, the gaming community has not yet seen them play in any big tournament as of yet. However, rumours are spreading in the South American gaming community on social media indicating that Boom Esports may be completely withdrawing from the Dota2 scene already. With ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 and Pinnacle 25-Year Anniversary ongoing, Boom Esports had aspirations to secure a spot via the SA Closed Qualifier. With the new lineup, there was a lot of enthusiasm from fans as well considering that they had dominated in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit South America. But to the surprise of fans, Boom Esports did not make it past the quarterfinals which made them disappointed and accepting of the rumour of their disbandment being spread, fans took to Reddit.
Boom Esports lost against Keys Stars in the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 in the quarterfinals. Whereas, in the Pinnacle 25-Year Anniversary, in which Boom Esports received an invitation to participate, they did not succeed as well. During the group stage, the organization exited the competition with zero points which was the lowest in Group C. This defeat really was a downfall for Boom’s Dota2 lineup which was so hyped about when it started.
The rumour about Boom Esports disbandment was spread when Russian Dota2 analyst Khaled “Sqreen” El-Khabbash leaked the information about an ‘anonymous’ team disbandment via a private Telegraph channel, later disclosing that it was Boom Esports that he was talking about. After this report from Sqreen, there was another report by Vladimir “Maelstrom” Kuzminov posting an icon of Boom Esports on his Telegram account followed by ‘disband esports’ which made fans speculate more on it.
For now, there is no official statement on this rumour about disbanding Boom Esports. Although their current performance was not up to mark and fans have taken their disappointment to different platforms like Reddit this decision might as well be a wise one for now.
