There are plenty of changes and new challenges with the start of Season 2 of the Battle League, The Throwback Challenge Month for May, and now news come of Niantic experimenting with the ingame currency; PokéCoins. This currency lands players all the nifty item grabs that make playing the game much more enjoyable and easy. Before now, the only way to get PokéCoins was through Gyms. However, Niantic looks to change that in the coming weeks.
Right now, the only way to earn PokéCoins is to defend Gyms. But since Pokémon GO’s release, we’ve added features that have vastly changed the way you play. In addition, with more Trainers playing at home, we’re looking to provide more ways for you to earn PokéCoins while playing in one place. So, in the future, we’ll be rewarding you with PokéCoins for activities besides defending Gyms. We’ll soon be testing this update only with Trainers in Australia, and it’ll be coming to all Trainers after this testing phase.
In order to balance this new method of earning PokéCoins, the number of PokéCoins earned from defending Gyms will be reduced from six per hour to two. The maximum number of PokéCoins you can earn in a day will be increased to 55.
This means that players will now be able to get PokéCoins through their basic play. The Gym scenario was considered quite hard for many as there were much lesser gyms and many more teams of players. This looks to provide players with more commodities so that they can enjoy the game more than before.
Here are some of the daily activities you might see. Complete the featured activities each day to receive five PokéCoins!
- Make an Excellent Throw
- Evolve a Pokémon
- Make a Great Throw
- Use a Berry to help catch a Pokémon
- Take a snapshot of your buddy
- Catch a Pokémon
- Power up a Pokémon
- Make a Nice Throw
- Transfer a Pokémon
- Win a raid
There will always be the option to buy the ingame currency by spending real money. However, for players that do not want to spend a real buck, they could see a fortunate future where they could get PokéCoins for free. This would include new players especially who previously had no way to get PokéCoins from gyms as they had weaker Pokemon.
The experimentation duration comes forward that will hold in Australia for the time being. Based on the results, there will be balance changes to the new PokéCoin System following with a global update.
Additionally, there is much more hauling of events coming to Pokemon GO as well. Players can look forward to May 9th for the Snubbul Limited Research that will be available to all players. You can check out the official update website for all the new info about everything Pokemon Go.
During the initial rollout in Australia, we will collect feedback and perform additional testing based on the results. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to providing this update to all Trainers once testing is complete. Please stay tuned to official channels for updates.
