The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has led to many esports organizers canceling their events. It has badly affected the esports industry as almost every big event has been either postponed or canceled. And now, Riot Games has officially confirmed that they have decided to cancel the Mid-Season Invitational for League of Legends. For those who don’t know, this event was one of the game’s biggest ones of this year. A lot of fans were looking forward to it, but Riot has made the right decision.

League of Legends MSI Canceled

According to Riot Games, they took this difficult decision of canceling the MSI in 2020 after carefully taking things into consideration. The health authorities have requested everyone to stay at home to prevent the disease from further spreading. In addition to this, there are also various travel restrictions these days. Riot also mentioned that they made this decision to ensure the health and safety of the players, teams, crew, partners, media, and fans.

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational was previously postponed on March 10 because of the coronavirus. The organizers shifted it to May. At that time, everyone thought that the outbreak will end soon and things will get back to normal within a few months. However, this is not the case as the disease is spreading quickly, and it is only wise to cancel an event of this caliber.

What’s Changing for The World Championship

League of Legends fans still have something to look forward to at the end of this year. Riot Games is now focusing on the World Championship. It is the biggest event for the game and features a really huge prize pool. In addition to this, the World Championship features the best League of Legends teams from all across the world.
