One of the biggest esports tournament organizers in the world, DreamHack has recently announced that their upcoming DreamHack Masters event has been shifted online. The tournament for CS:GO that was meant to take place in Jonkoping, Sweden, will now get hosted online. The tournament was previously postponed, but the news didn’t surprise anyone considering everyone knew this was going to happen.

The reason behind why the tournament was postponed and has been shifted online is the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. There is a global lockdown and countries are urging their citizens to stay inside their homes to prevent the disease from spreading further. Because of this reason, almost every esports event has been either postponed to a later date or has been canceled. However, some are being shifted online so that esports fans have something to look forward to while they are stuck inside their homes.

DreamHack Masters CS:GO 2020 Schedule

Now, it has been confirmed that DreamHack Masters CS:GO 2020 is going to be hosted online. The organizers have also confirmed the new dates for it. The tournament is now going to be divided into two parts, with one part being held in May, and the other being held in June. DreamHack has also announced that the qualifiers will be held on April 16 and will conclude on the 20th. The qualifiers will help the organizers with confirming the new teams.

The first part of the tournament is going to be the group stages. It will be held from May 19 till 30. The organizers have confirmed that in order to prevent latency and other internet issues from taking place, the group stages will be further split into NA and EU. Teams belonging to both regions will follow the same format and will continue at the same time.

The second part, on the other hand, is going to be the playoffs. It will start on June 8 and will conclude on the 14th. This will also allow the qualified teams to practice more for the playoffs as there is a big break after the first part.

Prize Pool

The prize pool of the DreamHack Masters CS:GO 2020 is going to be $300,000. Although the organizers won’t be able to generate revenue from ticket sales and other methods, they have still introduced a really amazing prize pool. For those wondering, this prize pool will split between four regions. $160,000 will go to Europe, North America will get $100,000, while Oceania and Asia will get $20,000 each.
