Pokemon Europe Championships canceled amid Virus concerns

The Pokemon Company has issued immediate cancellation of the European Championships concerning the healthcare for players. This has made the Pokemon European Championships the Corona Virus’s latest target of affected events.

The event was supposed to take place at the Estrel Berlin Congress Center in Berlin, Germany, on April 17–19. For which, it would have featured high Championship Point payouts and thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes, spread between the Pokémon TCG, video game, and Pokkén Tournament DX competitions. However, it shall not commence now.

Moreover, along with this news, the Pokemon Company has given notice to all fans playing Pokemon GO. They have advised players to remain indoors and disregard social interaction for the time being.

This is for the reason of infection. There are rumors Niantic will completely ban all accounts temporarily to discourage social interaction for the time being. In conclusion, the Corona strand has become a dangerous and highly infectious epidemic over a few months.

On the other hand, the previous Oceania Championships oversaw evasion from health threats and carried out with deciding their winners. Silva and Simone won the junior and masters divisions and the events went relatively smoothly.

The Pokemon TCG Championships held at the same place went smoothly as well. However, it seems now Pokemon Events are also vulnerable to the Corona Virus.

The cancellation news came first from Serebii.com, a popular and reliable website for everything Pokemon related. Their statement foresaw the World Health Organization’s advice to the Pokemon Company to cancel its events.

This is the official statement from the Pokemon Company:

“We have an important update for the 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championships.

The safety and well-being of our community, both competitors and organizers, is our top priority. While we prefer never to see an event get postponed or canceled, out of an abundance of caution and pursuant to the current recommendations set forth by public health officials, we have canceled the 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championships.

We want to thank the Play! Pokémon community for its continued interest in our competitive events and appreciate everyone’s support and understanding during these unique circumstances.

The Pokemon Company further sheds light on how players can check their local event organizers for any more information. This is what they had to say:

Statement for local players:

“The 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championships have been canceled out of an abundance of caution and pursuant to the current recommendations set forth by public health officials.

Players should check with their local organizers for the latest information about events in their area. These organizers are independent of Pokémon and act in the best interest of their event, including always being mindful of the safety of participants.

For the events directly organized by The Pokémon Company International, we examine each event on a case-by-case basis, informed by the latest updates issued by appropriate government and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.

Currently, there are no plans to postpone or cancel the 2020 Pokémon North America International Championships or 2020 Pokémon World Championships.

However, we are closely monitoring the situation and will keep the community updated in real-time on our website and @PlayPokemon should circumstances change. If you have additional questions, please contact Pokémon Customer Service.

We strongly advise all attendees, volunteers, and organizers to follow the guidelines and protocols issued by the WHO regarding health and wellness while attending mass gatherings.”

In conclusion, this grades the Corona Virus as a serious concern. Future news will notify when the events will recommence. All Pokemon events stop immediately. Visit the Pokemon Website for any more info. You can visit Serebii.com for all the latest information as well.
