The threat of coronavirus is not stopping anytime soon and it is causing many events to stop. The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) was about to conduct the Spring 2020 finals. The dates were the 25th and 26th of April 2020. Due to the increasing concern of the coronavirus’s spread, Riot issued a notice to stop the finals from taking place.

Riot has issued the LEC finals for Spring 2020 to be played in Berlin instead. Riot will stream the final show from their Berlin studio. No attendees allowed at the game as fewer people around means less risk of coronavirus spreading.

The following statement posted on the official website states:

After carefully assessing the situation, we believe that holding the event in a smaller setting and a more controlled environment is the right call. While we currently plan to host a live audience in the Berlin studio, we will continue to monitor the situation and work with local health officials to ensure the safety of players and fans, and will revisit this decision if necessary.

ALBERTO “TIROLESS” GUERRERO, LEC

The final was originally going to take place in Budapest, Hungary.

This is the third event this week that Riot has either canceled, postponed or moved due to the growing threat of coronavirus. The LCK, LPL and now the LEC have been severely affected during their Spring 2020 plays.
