Dota 2 is widely regarded as one of the top esports titles in the world. The game was released back in 2013 and since then, it has been played by millions of players every month. However, last year, fans noticed that its player base has been slowly declining. During most months of 2019, we saw the number of average players decrease significantly. But now, it seems like the game has started to pick up the pace again.

Recently, it was reported that Dota 2’s player base has once again started to increase as the number of average players has gone up for the first time since November 2019. That’s right, because of various reasons, Dota 2 hit 400,000 average players for the first time in February since the mentioned month. This is going to relieve many fans as most of them weren’t happy with the decline.

Dota 2 Average Players Go Up

As per SteamCharts, Dota 2 players first started to increase last month, in February. The number of players went up 7.14% and finalized at 405,978 average players for the month. This is a huge increase as compared to the previous months. At the end of September 2019, the number of average players was 421,971. After that, the number kept on decreasing, leaving many fans worried about the state of their favorite game.

The most interesting thing about this is that the number is currently increasing in this month too. As March goes on, the number of average players has gone up 1.48% with 412,000 players. Not only this, but the game has also managed to once again hit 700,000 peak players, something which last happened in November. At the moment, it is estimated that if things continue to go like this, then Dota 2 will have 450,000 average players at the end of this month.

There are a couple of reasons why all of this is happening. First, Valve has made various changes and improvements to the matchmaking. Second, the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak has contributed a lot to increase the player count. People have been ordered to stay at home in order to prevent the disease from spreading. Because of this reason, more players are now returning to the game.

Dota 2 isn’t the only game whose player count has increased suddenly because of the Coronavirus. Recently, we got to see that CS:GO managed to reach 1 million concurrent players for the first time since its release. The number will only keep on increasing in the coming weeks.
