Meltdown, the popular eSports bar franchise is all set to expand to multiple cities in the U.S. and Canada. For those unaware, Meltdown started back in 2012 as one of the permanent places for everything eSports.
According to the official website for Meltdown, the eSports bar is set to open its doors in Portland, Montreal, Quebec and Toronto in the current year. There is no official opening date announced as of right now but the website does mention that the openings are going to happen this year and they will “open soon”. Meltdown currently has 15 bars in 6 different countries and if all goes according to the announced plans, it should have 26 bars by the end of 2016. One of the owners of the franchise, Sophia Metz, said that they have had a lot of requests to open a Meltdown bar, especially in the U.S. However, she added that opening a bar on the scale of Meltdown takes time but now that they have adopted the franchise model, they can get to new places that they could not reach before.
The company has made sure to hand over franchise licenses only to people who have had experience in the eSports industry and have arranged some large scale tournaments in the past. Metz said that back when the eSports bar idea was fairly new, keeping a clear vision and objective along with coordination with the right kind of people is the key to bring Meltdown to the success it deserves. But, it is worth noting that the idea of an eSports bar has been adopted by many and things are not like what they used to be when Meltdown launched. There is a lot of competition and as we all know, the eSports market is changing rapidly as well. How well does Meltdown manage in this market through its franchise system, that only time is going to tell but as of right now, it is exciting to say the very least that the name that started it all is heading to the U.S. and Canada.
